The Autocar 2002 Awards Ceremony held today in Battersea, London, saw MG Rover Group receive the Autocar award for Outstanding Achievement and Peter Stevens the Autocar Designer of the Year.

NEW MG XPOWER SV REVEALED AT THE BRITISH INTERNATIONAL MOTOR SHOW
MG has today revealed its new high performance sports car named the MG XPower SV. Following development of the original X80 concept, the MG has been radically evolved, is lighter and has increased levels of power with up to 965bhp. So extreme is the performance that all models will be marketed under the MG Sport & Racing XPower brand.

BLUNDELL COMPLETES FIRST RALLY EVENT FOR MG
  Former Formula One driver, Mark Blundell, took to a rally track for the first time this weekend, competing in the Bulldog Rally as part of his preparations for entering the Network Q Rally of Great Britain next month.

ENHANCED MG DIESEL PERFORMANCE
  MG announces today (October 11) an enhanced performance diesel powered MG ZT saloon and MG ZT-T estate car. The ZT/ZT-T 135 CDTi offers increased levels of power and torque over the recently launched ZT CDTi, with power rising from 116Ps to 131Ps and torque from 260 to 300Nm.

MG ZR IS TOP OF THE CLASS
  The MG ZR won the Super1600 Class at the weekend’s Trackrod Rally in Yorkshire. In round seven of the Pirelli British Rally Championship Gwyndaf Evans and co-driver Chris Patterson completed the 14 gravel stages 1st in class and 4th overall.

  ITV F1 media panelist Tony Jardine and BBC Radio Five Live's Maurice Hamilton choked their way through all six stages of the Plains Rally (Aberystwyth) on Saturday (21 September) and returned home fourth in class and 39 overall in their Sportinglife.com MG ZR, despite blinding dust.

  Starting from fifth on the grid, Anthony Reid maintained his position in a race where the safety car was deployed twice. On lap 11 he overtook Muller to move up into fourth where he remained until the chequered flag.

  In an industry first, MG Rover Group has announced an initiative to sell its cars on the Virgin Cars’ website (www.virgin.com/cars). This is an incremental sales channel to the normal dealer route, but for those customers who may prefer to purchase their new vehicle on-line they now have a UK manufacturer backed alternative.

  MG Sport & Racing Limited announce today (August 29), the availability of post registration XPOWER diesel power upgrades. MEXICO SEES RETURN OF MG AND ROVER CARS
  In the last few days MG and Rover cars have been reintroduced into the Mexican market. Initially the Rover 75 Saloon and Tourer, the MG ZT and ZT-T and the MG TF sports car will be available to Mexican car buyers with potential to extend the range at a later date.

MG ON THE PODIUM AGAIN
  Last Sunday (25th August) saw the MG ZR clinch yet another award this time in Round 5 of the UK’s premier National Tarmac Rally Championship at Builth Wells. The group N class MG driven by Rob Stone, snatched third place on the final stage of the event after a day long battle.

It was a good day for MG all round as they secured their best qualifying results of the 2002 BTCC season.  Both the MG Hot Wheels Racing team and Team Atomic Kitten put in outstanding performances to place four MG ZS’s in the top five.

MG TEAM SPIRIT IN WALES
MG Rover Group employees Rob Stone and Tim Seipel will head for Wales this weekend to compete in their MG ZR’s as part of Team Spirit. The pair of MG ZR’s, a 1.4-litre Group N1 and 1.8-litre Group N3, will be challenging in the Mewla National Rally just south of Builth Wells.

MG ZS TOURING CAR TAKES ON THE FAST AND FURIOUS SNETTERTON CIRCUIT

  Both MGs started the sprint race from row six of the grid and battled midfield for the majority of the race. The race, won by Matt Neal, was interrupted twice during the latter stages with the safety car being deployed.
